Nyaudo happy with performance against Mathare United

Brian Birgen was a key part of the defence as Ulinzi Stars kept the first clean sheet of the season, in the 0 – 0 draw with Mathare United

A balanced affair on Match Day 3 saw Ulinzi Stars and Mathare United share spoils at the Afraha Stadium in a 0 – 0 draw on Saturday 17th February and though head coach Dunstan Nyaudo wanted a win, he was impressed by the performance and embraces the point picked.

Ahead of the game, the coach pointed out that he expected a big tactical fight and he got just that as the game developed into a cagey affair, with Mathare seeing a goal disallowed early in the opening half.

Ulinzi Stars, Mathare share spoils

A clash of two halves at the Afraha Stadium saw Ulinzi Stars and Mathare United play to a 0 – 0 draw in a faceoff pitting former champions, on Saturday 17 February.

As anticipated by head coach Dunstan Nyaudo, it was a tactical clash from the onset with Mathare United dominating the earlier proceedings as well as most of the first half and were only denied by great defending from the Ulinzi back line.

The starting team for Match Day 3 action against Mathare United has been named ahead of the clash slated for 3pm at Afraha Stadium on Saturday 17th February with head coach Dunstan Nyaudo making two changes to the side.

There will be a reorganization in the midfield, with Boniface Onyango being named on the bench and the coach handing a first start of the season to Justin Onuonga while Brian Birgen goes straight to the team after recovering from a knee injury that kept him out for the opening two matches.

Head coach Dunstan Nyaudo has injected three changes to the 18 – man squad picked ahead of the game against Mathare United as he looks to lift the team back to winning ways, having fallen 0 – 1 to Sony Sugar on Match Day 2.

The most notable inclusion in the squad is that of defender Brian Birgen who returns from injury while there will also be a place in the squad for Oscar Wamalwa, who missed the Sony Sugar game with an ankle sprain.

Key man Brian Birgen will be coming in to boost the defence as Mathare United tour Nakuru for the Round 3 Kenyan Premier League (KPL) match at Afraha Stadium on Saturday 17th February and hopes his return will lift the team, after the 0 – 1 loss to Sony Sugar in the last outing.

Birgen missed the opening two matches of the season with a knee injury but after lasting 90 minutes in the preseason friendly match against St. Joseph Youth, head coach Dunstan Nyaudo gave the green light for him to feature against Mathare United.
